What is a narrow twin mattress?

A narrow twin mattress, simply put, is not as wide as a twin mattress.  To be considered a narrow twin mattress, it must also not have the dimensions of any other size.  For example, a toddler or crib mattress is not a narrow twin even though it is narrower than a twin.  Narrow twins are designed with thickness of anywhere from six to twelve inches, just like other traditional sizes.  They can be composed of foams, latex, coils, or a combination of all three.  This size is especially versatile.  It can easily fit in and through tight spaces while still accommodating the length of the average adult.

With a longer length, this narrow twin mattress has the same dimensions of half of a split queen bed.  It is often chosen because it can welcome sleepers who are somewhat taller.

30 x 75 Narrow Twin Mattress:

When searching for a narrow twin mattress, the ones with dimensions of 30” x 75” are the most abundantly available.  That’s because it has the actual length of a traditional twin.

30x 72 Narrow Twin Mattress:

For really cramped spaces, there is this abridged version of narrow twin.  It cuts down both the length and width to more comfortably fit in small areas.

Is a narrow twin a good fit for you?

There are many times when a narrow twin is the right way to go.  First, when needed for use in a motor home, it may be the only size that will work well.  Taking good measurements is key to finding the appropriate size for your area.  Second, if you only need a narrow twin temporarily, it can later be combined with a second narrow twin.  This will provide a larger, more standard size bed for use in the future.  A good example would be if you get two narrow twins to use while traveling.  When the RV is not being used, those mattresses can be removed and used in the home.  That’s just one way this size offers flexibility.
